The Bayswater community is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Ross Williams, the long-serving principal of Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, who tragically passed away while attending a school camp in Rye, Victoria. Mr Williams had served as principal of Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School in Bayswater for approximately a decade and had dedicated more than 30 years to Catholic education. The tragedy occurred on Monday evening, August 31, 2026, during the first night of a three-day camp for Year 5 and 6 students in Rye. Williams was taking part in a night walk with students and fellow staff members when he reportedly complained of chest pain before collapsing.

A staff member immediately attempted to revive him by performing CPR, but despite those efforts, he could not be saved. The children were moved away from the area, and reports indicate that none of the students witnessed his collapse or death. The school camp was subsequently cut short, with students returning home to their families the following day.

Williams was in his mid-50s and was described by those who knew him as a kind, humble, energetic, and generous person. His leadership at Our Lady of Lourdes extended well beyond administrative responsibilities.
